What’s it like designing a website with you?

There are two ways to create a website with us.  The first way is to have us design and build your website from scratch. This is a typical approach for new businesses, or businesses interested in bringing new life to their online presence.

The second way is to have us transfer your existing website. Many of our new customers are fed up with paying too much for a website design/host that takes weeks or months to respond to minor change requests or site updates.

Each option has a step-by-step process that we will walk you through as we help you reach your goals for your business and your website.

Designing a website with us means we start from scratch.  We design every page of your website based on how you want your site to look.  Getting your website live as fast as possible and representing your brand well, are our top priorities. Once your website is live, we’ll keep your site fresh and new and respond to your questions and change requests promptly.

Typically before we start designing your site, we’ll have had a conversation over the phone, or in person to make sure we are aligned on what you need. We want to make sure we’re a good fit, and can deliver the best service that meets your goals. Assuming we both agree to get started, here are the steps.

  1. Contract: We send a basic engagement letter to you via email. The engagement letter outlines our services and fees, and defines our operating agreement with our client. After you have signed, we send out a welcome packet via email.
  2. Welcome Packet: The welcome packet helps you get to know us better.  This is a place where we ask you to consider branding your website with us.  This is optional.  If you already have branding for your website, we will collect all the information from you during this step. Branding information may include items like a logo, font designs, colors, textures, photography style, mission statement, and more. 
  3. Web Design Questionnaire: After all the branding information is collected, we have you fill out a website questionnaire.  The answers help us know exactly what your business needs online.
  4. One on One Meeting. We go over the answers in your questionnaire gathering all the details we need to make sure that the website design will reflect you and your business.  This is typically a 30-minute virtual meeting.
  5. Design Rough Drafts.  This takes 1-2 weeks.  We put together a rough-draft of your homepage based on the information we talked about in our one-on-one meeting.  We hear your feedback, and make adjustments as needed, and then gather additional feedback from you.
  6. Design Whole Website:  Once you are satisfied with the rough draft, we design every page of your website, and prep it for final editing.
  7. Editing:  There are two rounds of optional changes that can be made to your website.  Then the finishing touches are made and the final website is ready for go-live.
  8. Approval: You approve the final website design.
  9. Website Go-Live.  The website is ready to launch. We’ll make the necessary arrangements to your domain name provider to get your site live. This typically takes less than an hour or two. Then we celebrate with you! We’re so excited for you and your business, and to be a part of helping your business grow!  We succeed when you succeed!
  10. Monthly Maintenance & Connect: We review your site monthly, to ensure it is secure, up-to-date, fresh, with no broken links, and optimized for SEO. We’ll send out updates to you each month, and are available to make updates to your site as they are needed.

A website transfer is for anyone who already has a website with another provider.  The process is simple and straight forward. For a website transfer, your site is already built and finished (or you may want a few changes).  While you may want a few design changes, your main objective is to make 120 Web Design your new host provider.

  1. Contract. We send the contract to you via email.  This happens after we have an initial conversation with you about what service you are investing in. After you have sent us the signed contract, we send you a welcome packet via email.
  2. Welcome Packet: In the welcome packet, you get to know us better.  This is the step when we ask you to consider re-branding your website with us. Re-branding is optional, and takes additional time, but it can bring a fresh look to your online-presence and may bring your site’s coding up-to-date, depending on when it was originally built.
  3. Contact Host Provider: We’ll need to know who your current website provider is. We will contact them on your behalf, but often they will need to hear from you directly. After you have verified with them your desire, we take it from there.
  4. The Transfer: The transfer will go 1 of 3 ways, typically:
    • A File Transfer: In this case, your current provider will make a backup of your site, and send us the files. We’ll then restore those files on our server, giving us an exact replica of your site that’s ready for go-live.
    • Site Access: Some providers won’t give us a backup, but they will give us access to the site. In this case, we either make our own backup, or we recreate an exact replica on our servers.
    • No Access: Some providers will absolutely not share the site with us. When that happens, we’ll create a new site for you, that’s as close to a replica as we can get. Since we don’t have access to exactly what tools your current provider used, we won’t be exact, but we’ll be close enough. In most cases, you may not notice a difference.
  5. Website Goes Live: Once we have everything transferred and ready to go, we’ll reconfigure your domain, and get your site live. Then we celebrate!!   
  6. Monthly Maintenance & Connect: We review your site monthly, to ensure it is secure, up-to-date, fresh, with no broken links, and optimized for SEO. We’ll send out updates to you each month, and are available to make updates to your site as they are needed.

We want to make an exact replica of your original design. If you opted to have changes or branding added, we’ll also include them in your website transfer. Communication is big priority here at 120 Web Design.  We commit to clearly and quickly responding to any needs or questions you have.  

Branding is the personality of your business. This personality is communicated with design items like logos, fonts, colors, textures, photography style, mission statement, values, and brand voice.  Every time you share a business card, send a thank you note to a client, wear a sweatshirt with your logo on it, or share your website link, you are introducing your business to someone using your brand.  It’s also important to note that branding should happen before a website is designed.

Branding with us is a process.  A step by step journey we take alongside you in order to get to know you and your business.  As we get to know you more through our questionnaires and one-on-one conversations, we can gauge exactly what you need for your website.  The process can range from 1-3 months depending on the type of branding you are looking for.

 

  1. Contracts Signed. We send the contract to you via email.  This happens after we have an initial conversation with you about what service you are investing in. This welcome packet shows you exactly what branding package you have decided to invest in, introduces the 120 web design team, and the timeline of each step we’ll take during the design process. We will also send you a branding questionnaire.
  2. Branding Questionnaire: A branding questionnaire is a list of questions that tell us the story of your business.  It also includes questions about colors, fonts and other design elements. This questionnaire is your opportunity to share your vision of what you want your business to be. These answers help us define the branding style that best fits you and your business.
  3. One-on-One Meeting:  After filling out the branding questionnaire, you send us the answers and then we sent up a one-on-one meeting to discuss your answers.  This meeting is one hour.  We want to solidify the ideas in your branding questionnaire.  From there, we can have a clear idea of what design direction to take.
  4. Design Two Drafts: Here is when we design two rough drafts for a primary logo and colors.  From these two designs, you choose the one you love the most, and note any changes you would like to be made.
  5. Final Design Begins: This is when 120 Web Design hunkers down and does the entire brand design.  
  6. Design Delivery:  We deliver your design package via email.  We go through each design element.  In this step, we have a list of questions for you to consider as you take in all the designs.  Our goal is 100% satisfaction!  We allow for 2 rounds of edits, and then add the finishing touches. Once all the edits are complete, we deliver the final branding package.
  7. Approval Signature.  When you receive the final branding package, we send you an approval document. This document is for payment and acknowledgement that the product was delivered.
  8. Website Design: After branding is concrete, we then move on to incorporating the brand into web design.
